jam sessions north
Vermont / new Hampshire

Free and open to everyone, our jam sessions are an informal opportunity for musicians and instrumentalists to improvise and play without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements.

What is a jam session

Come join us for an Interplay Jazz Jam Sessions—free, open to everyone, and perfect for musicians and music lovers alike! Whether you’re here to play or simply listen, these gatherings are all about community, improvisation, and shared joy in music.

What to Expect

You are welcome to play, sing, or simply listen during Interplay Jazz Jam North sessions. Attendance is open to all.

Please bring 6–8 copies of the sheet music or lead sheets for the tunes you would like to play with the group, or feel free to join in using the music others provide. You may also wish to use an iPad with an app like iReal Pro

There will be a grand piano or an electric piano, and a PA with a microphone. Our regular guitarists, bassists, and drummers will bring amps and a drum kit you can share, or you may bring your own.

Please bring any personal accessories you need, such as cords, sticks, brushes, and similar items. Using shared equipment or your own helps us keep the sessions running smoothly and focused on the music.

A TYPICAL JAM SESSION

Beginning at 6:30 PM, we encourage instrumentalists to participate in a free-flow session to develop new material (music) and play together. The instrumental jam may be based upon existing songs or forms, loosely based on an agreed chord progression or chart suggested by one participant, or wholly improvisational.

Continuing at 7:30 PM, vocalists are encouraged to bring well-known jazz standards,  popular songs, or an original tune in their key to play with the instrumentalists, creating arrangements and improvisation in real time!

Jam session ends at 9:00 PM.
