Monthly Jam Session
Jam sessions start at 6:30 PM.
Beginning at 6:30 PM, we encourage instrumentalists to participate in a free-flow session to develop new material (music) and play together. The instrumental jam may be based upon existing songs or forms, may be loosely based on an agreed chord progression or chart suggested by one participant, or may be wholly improvisational.
Continuing at 7:30 PM, vocalists are encouraged to bring well-known jazz standards, popular songs, or an original tune in their key to play with the instrumentalists, creating arrangements and improvisation in real time!
Jam session ends at 9:30 PM.
Jam sessions are free and open to everyone to participate or just listen. You are invited to bring an offering of food or drink to share if you’d like.
Interplay’s jam sessions are used as social gatherings and communal practice sessions. People often ask, “What is a jam session?” A jam session is a relatively informal musical event, process, or activity where musicians, typically instrumentalists, play improvised solos and vamp on tunes, songs and chord progressions. To “jam” is to improvise music without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements, except for when the group is playing well-known jazz standards or covers of existing popular songs.
Attendance at these Monthly Jazz Jam Sessions is free and open to everyone. Audience members are encouraged to attend and enjoy! Everyone is encouraged to bring a finger food or beverage to share. Please RSVP on the website so we can know how many will be coming to play or listen.
Location varies each month.
